About THE SERIES
A multi-disciplinary community driven event, THE SERIES cross-pollinates a social experience with performing and visual arts. Founded by Nicole Disson in 2010, THE SERIES pairs top and emerging talent in the fields of contemporary dance, sound art, music, playwriting, poetry, theater and other performance and art disciplines—most of whom haven’t worked together previously—to collaborate on original pieces. Inspired by rule-breaking productions of surrealist theater and experimental immersive contemporary dance, THE SERIES is part show and part event that blurs the line between audience and performer.
During the five plus years since its inception, THE SERIES has brought together a huge number of celebrated artists to participate in its shows, including its writer-in-residence, poet Mandy Kahn, choreographer Benjamin Millepied’s L.A. Dance Project, HAIM, IO ECHO, experimental theater troupe Poor Dog Group, artist Alia Penner, choreographer Kitty McNamee’s Hysterica Dance Co., choreographer Danielle Agami’s Ate9, writer Jacqueline Suskin and POEM STORE, TEARIST, Julia Holter, Mia Doi Todd and actors Tessa Thompson, Jena Malone and Jason Ritter, to name just a few.
