Marsian is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and activist who constructs installations and time-based visual narratives in intimate settings. In their practice, they employ puppets, dolls, performing objects, models, miniatures, and humor to memorialize obsessional lives. As an activist, they organized rallies in Massachusetts, which led to the nation’s first anti-discrimination law for LGBTQ+ students. In 2021, the NYC Department of Education included ephemera from their advocacy work in its social studies curriculum. They have served on selection committees for L.A. County Arts, California Arts Council, REDCAT, and the Puppet Slam Network, which they co-founded; as well as on the boards of UNIMA-USA, The LA Guild of Puppetry, and the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council. They have collaborated with Los Angeles Performance Practice as an R+D artist, Accelerator participant, and for the premiere of “Object of Her Affection” at LAX Festival. In 2022, they joined the Research in the Arts team to study funding disparities faced by L.A.’s contemporary performance-makers. Marsian is eager to use their capacity as Development Specialist to advocate for the critical resources necessary to sustain the artists of L.A.’s creative ecosystem.
