WORKSHOPS

Our artist-centric workshops cover everything from the practical skill-sets of grant writing and budgeting, to creative topics such as devising performance or contemporary dance practices.

Our 2024 Workshop season is underway! We’re offering space with L.A. Performance Practice artists including Wyatt Coday, Marianna Varviani, and Anna Luisa Petrisko. Read below for details and to register.

THE BLACK PILL: Confronting the Story and Intentions of Our Work
Wednesday, March 27, 2024 @ 6:00 PM
at WeWork
$25*
PAST— THANK YOU FOR JOINING US!
Building off the continued interest for grant writing, but also wanting to further meet needs, we are offering a more targeted workshop with artist Wyatt Coday and Nor Research Studio. THE BLACK PILL is a two-hour writing workshop that asks its artist-participants to take a daring look in the mirror and honestly answer why and for whom they make their work. Drawing examples from artists as diverse as Bracha Ettinger, Xandra Ibarra, Rindon Johnson, Slavs and Tatars, Cameron Rowland, Andrew Norman Wilson, and Can Xue, the workshop will review several approaches to first-person storytelling and narrative arguments within an interdisciplinary context. Ultimately, participants should leave the session with compelling language to describe their work and practice as well as a strong sense of how that language can be applied to grants, project proposals, and work descriptions.

PAST— THANK YOU FOR JOINING US!
Marianna Varviani invites you to explore the storytelling power of physical expression. Through this workshop, we will play with dramaturgical structures, explore movement language and creative tools that will shape embodied worlds. Through three hours of practice, we will investigate relationship dynamics, textures, and movement manifestations, as well as the who, what, where, and why’s of creating a piece. This workshop is open to dancers, actors, and movers of all kinds! Come ready to move and sweat a little! Bring water, snacks if you get hungry, and a notebook and pen for yourself.

at Pieter
$25*

REGISTER HERE
In August, we have a workshop offering from All Time Stop Now‘s Anna Luisa Petrisko that uses sound to unlock your imagination and storytelling skills. We’ll be making sounds, listening to sounds, tapping into the healing effects of sound, and using sounds as creative writing prompts. The workshop ends with a relaxing sound bath using crystal singing bowls and other meditative instruments. Bring a notebook and pen. You have the option to lay down for the sound bath, so feel free bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow and anything else you would like for comfort. No prior experience necessary– this participatory experience is open to all!
