Programs for Artists
Our programs are designed to support the production and presentation of contemporary performance by artists whose work advances and challenges multi-disciplinary artistic practices. We know the ideas that are percolating today must manifest tomorrow. Find out more about our current program offerings below.
We build programs that best serve the needs of Los Angeles-based artists. We are open to new ways that we can support ideas, stay in conversation, and bring new art to local audiences. Reach out any time with ideas to William Ruiz Morales, Programs Associate, at William@PerformancePractice.org.

Research + Development
Research + Development (R+D) is designed to support the creation of new work by Los Angeles-based performance makers in the early stages of a project’s process. Through R+D, we aim to provide seed support to artists committed to live performance, who are looking to develop their work locally. Our mission continues to be anchored by a devotion to the production and presentation of contemporary performance by artists whose work advances and challenges multi-disciplinary artistic practices.

Free Advice
Available to all artists, this program offers an opportunity to meet (virtually or in-person) in both small groups and in one-on-one sessions to support a generous exchange of ideas, practices, knowledge, and inspiration. Artists are encouraged to seek advice for a wide range of topics related to their work, from identifying grant and residency opportunities to locating creative communities and collaborators. In the small groups format, our staff will host the conversations and offer additional insight or knowledge of patterns in the field of contemporary performance.

CASUAL
Originally piloted in 2019, CASUAL provides Los Angeles artists with an opportunity to show a work in process. CASUAL supports artists who are looking to engage in a critical exchange with audiences by presenting their work in the early to mid stages of development. The new work can be loose. Anything between the spark of an idea or an excerpt from a new performance that is ready to be tested in front of an audience. CASUAL aims to create a space for experimentation with a friendly audience that feels useful to the artist’s practice and process.
