“I’m just happy to be here”

Conceived/Performed by Cristina Fernandez
in Conversation/Collaboration with Jennie MaryTai Lui

September 29, 2019 at The Vortex

“I’m just happy to be here,”

An exploration of the
Maybe’s
The
What If’s
And the
In Between

Legacy,
Rebellion,
And
Losing your Matria

When does an image no longer serve and how does the word become flesh?
The more things change do the more they stay the same?
Is a thing about a thing the thing; Or is the thing the thing?

Cristina Fernandez is a performer, comic and writer. She’s currently writing the Spanish translation of “El Verde,” by Anthony Aguilar, a comic book about a Mexican American superhero. Cristina’s writing will also be featured in the upcoming collection, “Our Red Book,” by Rachel Kauder Nalebuff, out November 2022, published by Simon & Schuster.

As a performer, Cristina has worked alongside Conan O’Brien and Christopher Guest. She has been seen and heard on NBC, HBO, Fuse Television, on national commercials and syndicated shows. She’s performed at renowned venues including Skirball Cultural Center, Hammer Museum, Bootleg Theater, CTG, Laugh Factory and the Comedy Store.

Cristina’s work centers around presence, parenthood and existentialism. She holds a Masters in Acting from the California Institute of the Arts, (CalArts) and is originally from Puerto Rico. Yes, it’s part of the United States.
