WEDNESDAY 10/17/18
10p LATE NIGHT at THINK TANK // featuring Large Shiva and Justin Bardales
Large Shiva is a Los Angeles based orchestra of unconventional instrumentation led by composer/multi-instrumentalist Justin Bardales. The group performs repertoire written and directed by Bardales with experimentation as a focus. No one performance by this group is ever the same twice and the music is genre defying as it will incorporate aspects of free jazz, world music concepts, chance music, contemporary classical, free improvisation and beyond.
Justin Bardales is based out of his hometown of Los Angeles, and is a composer/multi-instrumentalist/teacher/band leader who embraces a global perspective on both composition and instruction. Earning both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from California Institute of the Arts, music from all over the world, particularly India & West Africa, have become an important part of both his performance and compositional palette. He has been a teaching artist for the Community Arts Partnership at CalArts and gives private lessons on both composition and performance application. A partial list of teachers include Bernardo Feldman, Ulrich Krieger, Kobla Ladzekpo, Sulley Imoro, Pirayeh Pourafar, Houman Pourmehdi, Randy Gloss, Andrew Grueschow, Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Pandit Ramesh Mishra, Ustad Aashish Khan, Poovalur Sriji.
