THE SOUND AND THE STORY
ANNA LUISA PETRISKO
AUGUST 14, 2024
6pm-8pm
$25*
at PIETER
This is a participatory workshop that uses sound to unlock your imagination and storytelling skills. We’ll be making sounds, listening to sounds, tapping into the healing effects of sound, and using sounds as creative writing prompts. The workshop ends with a relaxing sound bath using crystal singing bowls and other meditative instruments.
Bring a notebook and pen. You have the option to lay down for the sound bath, so feel free bring a yoga mat, blanket, pillow and anything else you would like for comfort. No prior experience necessary– this participatory experience is open to all!
ANNA LUISA PETRISKO is a musician and artist working in video, performance, sound, installation, and textiles. Her art is invested in the sacred as much as it is interested in technological speculation, exploring future and ancient ideas at a non-linear tempo. She investigates the body as a site of paradox – transcendent of time, space and form. Her work is grounded in community and archiving histories. She collaborates with many artists and friends. These shared works build relationships and cultural communion.
Anna Luisa has been presented by the Roy and Edna Disney / CalArts Theater (REDCAT), LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions), On The Boards, and the LA County Museum of Art (LACMA). She has been awarded by the MAP Fund, National Performance Network (NPN), and Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant. She was a Creative Capital Finalist. She has been artist-in-residence at Yaddo, Coaxial Arts Foundation, Facebook, and the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.
