We are now hiring for a Programs Associate (part-time) to perform a variety of administrative and creative tasks supporting our local programs for artists.

Los Angeles Performance Practice is a non-profit organization devoted to the production and presentation of contemporary performance by artists whose work advances and challenges multi-disciplinary artistic practices.

Our mission is to support a unique and diverse constellation of artists and audiences through the active creation and presentation of groundbreaking experiences that use innovative approaches to collaboration, technology and social engagement. Anchored in Los Angeles, our artists and projects have national and global reach.

Across a range of platforms and partnerships, we build an active network of contemporary practitioners—curators and producers, artists and designers, audiences and patrons—all leveraged in service to the ideas and issues of our time.


Programs Associate (Part-Time)

POSITION OVERVIEW // 

Los Angeles Performance Practice is looking for a new member of our team to perform a variety of administrative and creative tasks supporting our local programs for artists. The Programs Associate will provide specific project management and support for LAPP’s participation as an Administering Organization for the California Arts Council, focused on the Individual Artist Fellowships program for Los Angeles County, a program that recognizes, uplifts, and celebrates the excellence of California artists practicing any art form. In addition, they will support the local programs for artists through various administrative duties.

The ideal candidate has an interest in arts administration and a variety of artistic disciplines, and will be excited to work on program design, community engagement and outreach, and evaluation. Alongside programmatic and administrative work, the Programs Associate will proactively develop relationships with Los Angeles-based artists across disciplines in order to share program opportunities.  They will report to the Producer + Director of Programs, and will work collaboratively with all members of the team. 

Responsibilities

PROGRAMS

  1. In collaboration with the Producer + Director of Programs, manage the development of program content:
    1. Research needs and priorities for program development.
    2. Identify program partners, solicit involvement and manage these relationships.
    3. Participate in the development of program components and materials (applications, onboarding materials, surveys, etc.).
    4. Understand goals, manage timelines and set measurable benchmarks.
    5. Contribute to the evaluation and documentation strategies.

  1. In collaboration with the Marketing Specialist, coordinate marketing and communications for programs:
    1. Help to develop marketing/outreach and communication strategies in alignment with program goals:
      1. Identify target participants for outreach and involvement.
      2. Collaborate on development of needed materials to support outreach strategies.
      3. Initiate contact with new prospects, execute and manage program outreach, employing a range of strategies to communicate to a diverse, representative, and active group of participants that meet enrollment goals.
      4.  Track and analyze outreach strategies annually. Research and recommend strategies for ongoing outreach to expand program participation.
      5. Identify creative ways to engage constituents more deeply and directly in the work of the organization. 
      6.  Manage data collection and tracking, including data entry and statistics reporting.

  1. Successfully execute program implementation:
    1. Work as the project coordinator for the Individual Artist Fellowships regranting program for Los Angeles County.
    2. Assist with LAPP’s existing programs for artists including FREE ADVICE, WORKSHOPS FOR ARTISTS, RESEARCH + DEVELOPMENT, and ACCELERATOR. 
    3. Track and meet deadlines.
    4. Coordinate and manage all event logistics.
    5.  Meet or exceed goals for enrollment and participation.
    6. Effectively implement program components.
    7. Manage contracts and vendor relations as needed.
    8. Identify challenges and develop solutions to program implementation.
    9. Coordinate and manage program documentation.
    10. Assist in and provide statistics for program evaluation. 
    11. Respond to program inquiries in a timely manner.
    12. Cultivate relationships with program alumni. 
    13. Be familiar with project budgets and contracts.

OTHER ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Attend scheduled weekly staff and team meetings.
  • Provide administrative support to the Producer + Director of Programs in all areas of program and project management, including scheduling, tracking incoming emails, coordinating site visits or meetings, running reports, writing and reviewing written materials, and facilitating meeting preparation, etc.
  • Contribute to the well-being of the organization with an “all hands on deck” attitude for projects, performances, events, and other duties as deemed necessary.

Experience 

  • Background in arts administration and/or project management, with a minimum of two years experience in a professional work environment
  • Proficiency in Google Office Suite (gmail, google sheets, drive, calendar, meet apps)
  • Demonstrates excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Experienced and comfortable working with artists at multiple career stages
  • Comfortable interfacing with project partners
  • Able to work effectively with a team
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates a commitment to supporting artists and a creative community

Schedule

Weekly schedules are responsive to active program activities. 

This position will work approximately 15-20 hours per week from the date of hire through the execution of the Individual Artist Fellowships program (currently scheduled through December 2024). 

This position offers a hybrid work schedule with half-time in-person including attending weekly staff meetings. Our office is located within a coworking space in Downtown L.A. Each staff member has a dedicated desk in a dedicated office space for our small team. Other work may be completed remotely on a flexible schedule, with an expectation that emails are checked and attended to Monday through Thursday. 

Nights and weekends will be required, aligning with events and productions.

Travel may be required for special projects and events. 

Compensation & Benefits

$20-$25 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Hourly rates are objectively determined using a matrix that considers years of applicable experience with relevant qualifications, education, and training. Employees are eligible for annual pay increases, and have access to professional development opportunities. 

All employees have access to accrued sick time and paid time off. 

LAPP does not currently offer health benefits.
