Presented by Wexner Center for the Arts & Los Angeles Performance Practice
Distant Dance Demonstration is an evolving choreographic work by Netta Yerushalmy with contributions from performers Marc Crousillat, Stanley Gambucci, Nick Sciscione, Caitlin Scranton, Hsiao-Jou Tang, Babacar Top and Symara Johnson.
Following an unauthorized outdoor live performance at the Amphitheater in East River Park in Manhattan on September 3rd, 2020, this video project attempts to preserve a dance made in real space – refocused for an audience in the digital realm. Filmed during an ongoing global health crisis, while confronting the deep inequities and unbalanced power structures embedded in every system, this dance is a time capsule that we are still living in. Editor and director Jeremy Jacob will use the footage of the performance as well as high quality photos by Maria Baranova, animation, and digital design, to introduce a new way to experience dance virtually: a bridge between forms as we bridge time and new realities.
