CASUAL Debrief Featured on Mid Theory

CASUAL Debrief Featured on Mid Theory

Announcements, CASUAL, Press Releases

A free-swirling debrief of Los Angeles Performance Practice’s latest iteration of CASUAL was just published on Mid Theory Collective. A space for scholars in the humanities to think, learn, read, and write together, Mid Theory prioritizes the work of early-career, independent, and otherwise precariously employed scholars in the humanities. Coauthored by LAPP’s Marsian De Lellis, William Ruiz Morales, and gina young, “Peek Behind the Curtain: A CASUAL Theatre Post-Mortem” was edited by Farah Bakaari and is featured on the website’s homepage, accompanied by an Argel Rojo photograph of Vic Marks’ A Deer Walks Into a Dance.

The debrief is conversational, psychedelic-feeling, and co-authored because CASUAL was co-curated. Accompanied by gorgeous photos and detailed descriptions of the four works-in-process by Marks, Cayla Mae Simpson, Cade Moga + Ironstone, and Anuj Bhutani, the writing will give you a (cannibalistic?) taste of everything you missed. We hope you find it delicious.

"We are living through a moment in which artists are expected to do more with less, to move between institutional logics and community urgencies, to survive precarity and still be visionary. Too often, artists are spoken about rather than spoken with. Too often, institutions prioritize metrics over lived realities. If we are to build a sustainable arts ecosystem in Los Angeles, institutions must realign, not with trends or mandates, but with artists."

2021 Research + Development Residency // Marsian De Lellis

Jul 9, 2021

For their 2021 R+D Residency at home, Marsian De Lellis spent time developing and researching the script for Model Killer: Giant Crimes + Tiny Cover-Ups. Model Killer is a solo immersive puppetry and performing object installation centered on a disgruntled dollhouse maker turned investigator, Vivian Nutt, who builds dioramas of unsolved murders, only for it to be revealed that she is in fact, a serial killer.
