2022 CASUAL

2022 CASUAL

CASUAL

Announcing Our 2022 CASUAL Program!

CASUAL returns! Originally piloted in 2019, CASUAL provides Los Angeles artists with an opportunity to show a work in process. CASUAL supports artists who are looking to engage in a critical exchange with audiences by presenting their work in the early to mid stages of development. The new work can be loose. Anything between the spark of an idea or an excerpt from a new performance that is ready to be tested in front of an audience. CASUAL aims to create a space for experimentation with a friendly audience that feels useful to the artist’s practice and process.

This program is designed for work at an early or mid stage of development that would benefit from being shown in front of a live audience. This opportunity is ideal for artists who welcome feedback, have specific questions about how their work is experienced, and/or projects that can only be developed with exposure to an audience.

Two projects will be invited and each lead artist will receive a $300 stipend.

Very basic lighting and sound playback will be available. Each project will have approximately one hour in the space to run through and rehearse. CASUAL is a casual showing of new ideas, and not an opportunity for technical/production development.

Artists must primarily reside in Los Angeles County.

Los Angeles Performance Practice is thrilled to further expand on our Research + Development (R+D) program offerings by announcing a new residency opportunity for parents/guardians. The program will support an early development process for two invited projects. Each invited residency will receive a $1,200 stipend, a $800 contribution towards childcare expenses, and one week or approximately 40 hours in a work/rehearsal space. We are open to artists constructing their time in a way that serves their creativity and their parenting lives, and will work with each invited artist to find an appropriate work space based on the project’s needs and the program’s available resources.
