2022 CASUAL

2022 CASUAL

CASUAL

Announcing Our 2022 CASUAL Program!

CASUAL returns! Originally piloted in 2019, CASUAL provides Los Angeles artists with an opportunity to show a work in process. CASUAL supports artists who are looking to engage in a critical exchange with audiences by presenting their work in the early to mid stages of development. The new work can be loose. Anything between the spark of an idea or an excerpt from a new performance that is ready to be tested in front of an audience. CASUAL aims to create a space for experimentation with a friendly audience that feels useful to the artist’s practice and process.

This program is designed for work at an early or mid stage of development that would benefit from being shown in front of a live audience. This opportunity is ideal for artists who welcome feedback, have specific questions about how their work is experienced, and/or projects that can only be developed with exposure to an audience.

Two projects will be invited and each lead artist will receive a $300 stipend.

Very basic lighting and sound playback will be available. Each project will have approximately one hour in the space to run through and rehearse. CASUAL is a casual showing of new ideas, and not an opportunity for technical/production development.

Artists must primarily reside in Los Angeles County.

Research + Development: Early Project Support 2022

Jan 11, 2022

INTEREST FORMS NOW CLOSED Los Angeles Performance Practice is excited to announce the next round of Research + Development (R+D), designed to support the creation of new work by Los Angeles-based performance makers in the early stages of a project’s process. Through R+D, we aim to provide seed support to artists who are committed to live performance, and who are looking to develop their work locally. Our mission continues to be anchored by a devotion to the production and presentation of contemporary performance by artists whose work advances and challenges multi-disciplinary artistic practices. The program will support an early development process for two invited projects. Each invited project will receive a $1,600 stipend, plus additional support that will be tailored to best meet individual needs.

LAX Festival: Empower through Story with Anu Yadav

Nov 11, 2021

Actress, playwright, and storyteller Anu Yadav brings forth the power of storytelling to illuminate the truth that: together, through listening, we have the ability to address the pressing problems we face. With roots in the theater scene, Yadav draws on theater-based exercises to engage people into conversations that build community, connection, and trust. I spoke with Yadav over the phone for a brief conversation into her artistic philosophy and her upcoming workshop at the LAX Festival 21.
